My husband Laurie was serving in the Royal Tank Regiment in 1944.
During the war, like many Service wives I ‘went home’ with my young family, two lovely daughters. We lived on the south coast, at Bracklesham Bay, right on the edge of the beach; the same place where the last rehearsal for D-Day took place. We were allowed to stay, but for 24 hours before D-Day we were barricaded in completely.
On D-Day itself, I was listening to the radio and heard that the invasion had taken place. I remember saying to my daughters, ‘I expect Daddie is there.’
